We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor.
This is a Full Time Position.


Summary
The Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, will primarily be responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, and maintenance of Trico Occupational Health and Safety policies and programs. This position works closely with all levels of management and employees to ensure consistent promotion and utilization of safe work practices. The Occupational Health and Safety Advisor must advise on safety standards, regulations, and legislative compliance and make recommendations to improve the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees.


Job Duties
• Directing and monitoring all construction staff in maintaining compliance with the Safety Manual.
• Directing all construction staff to take prompt corrective action to stop unsafe acts and eliminate unsafe or unhealthy conditions.
• Investigating and documenting environmental/safety incidents and/or accidents. Taking corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Conducting safety meetings along with Construction Manager and Site Supervisors.
• Participating in site inspections with appointed environmental and safety officials and implementing corrective measures as required.
• Implementing a project emergency response program.
• Verifying that all on-site company vehicles and equipment are maintained within safe operating conditions.
• Specifying that all equipment (particularly hoisting equipment) is inspected before use.
• Reviewing equipment accident reports and initiating investigation and documentation procedures.
• Monitoring the jobsite through personal observation for environmental non-compliance or unsafe conditions/hazards
• Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation.
• Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
• Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all Trico Homes Inc. employees and subcontractors.
• Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for Trico Homes Inc. supervisors and field employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
• Develop and implement complex safety programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions.
• Other duties as may be assigned


Requirements
• Relevant post-secondary degree
• Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, MSDA) is considered a strong asset.
• Three to five years’ experience in occupational health and safety in a residential establishment.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the “Work Safe Alberta” and Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
• Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
• Working towards certification, or already certified, under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations is preferred.
• Availability to be on call 24/7
• Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
